Every single registered domain has no less than two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a particular hosting company. This way, you've got both your site and your emails managed by the very same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, for example A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, when you type a domain address in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of another provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means that you could have your site and your e-mails with 2 different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account from our company and you want to switch either your website or your emails to a different service provider, it's going to take you literally just 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it won't take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you change or set up is not going to take more than several hours and if needed, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

With the Linux semi-dedicated hosting we provide, you'll have complete control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains which you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and editing any record takes simply a few mouse clicks. If you decide to change your web or email hosting provider, you can edit the required record and point your domain address to the other company for one of the services, as you still keep using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you are changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default two we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for each and every one.
